Windows 10 .pdf default fix

In your start menu, type in "default app settings"
Scroll down, and click "Choose default apps by file type"
Allow time for the file types to populate. Looking at the file names on the left, scroll about 2/3 of the way down to find ".pdf". Click the Microsoft Edge icon, and then select the new default program (Adobe Reader) in the list.
Alternately, choose Set defaults by app
Select Adobe Reader in the left, then hit Set this program as default to assign it all of its defaults.
